Los comienzos de Amanda Hocking

Creí que nunca llegaría el momento en el que Amanda Hocking respondiera a alguno de mis mensajes, y no solo he recibido una grata sorpresa al ver su respuesta, si no que además ha tenido el gran detalle de responder a varias preguntas que le he planteado. ¿Quieres conocer algo más sobre los comienzos de esta grandísima autora? Pues no te pierdas su entrevista:

1. When did you decide to write your first novel? And what made you write paranormal/fantasy?

"¿Cuándo decidió escribir su primera novela? ¿Y qué le hizo decantarse por el género paranormal /fantasía?"

 

I wrote my first novel when I was in high school. I started out writing sort of dark/crime-thrillers. I didn't actually start writing Young Adult until I became an adult, but I think it suits me much better. The first paranormal books I wrote were the My Blood Approves series, and I went on from there. I think they're a lot more fun to read and to write, than what I was doing before.

"Escribí mi primera novela en el instituto. Empecé escribiendo novela negra y criminal. No comencé a escribir Juvenil y Adulto hasta que fui mayor, y creo que me pega mucho más. Mi primer libro paranormal que fue la serie "Lazos de sangre" , y la cosa continuó desde entonces. Creo que son mucho más divertidos de leer y escribir que lo que hacía antes."

2. Can you tell us about the process you had to follow in order to publish your first novel?

"Puedes contarnos algo sobre el proceso que seguiste para publicar tu primera novela?"

 

I heard about self-publishing, and was hoping to save up some money to go to a Jim Henson exhibit at a museum in Chicago, which is about 6 hours from where I live. I thought I would give it a shot with my My Blood Approves series, and things really started to take off a few months after that. I started releasing more books that way, and now I'm working with a publisher. 

"Escuché mucho sobre la auto publicación y traté de ahorrar algo de dinero para ir a una exhibición de Jim Henson en el museo de Chicago, que está a unas 6 horas de donde vivo. Pensé que me daría un empujón con mi serie "Lazos de sangre", y las cosas comenzaron a despegar unos meses después de eso. Comencé a sacar más novelas de ese modo, y ahora trabajo con un editor."

3. Who are your favourite authors? and which book has meant the most for you?

"¿Quiénes han sido tus autores preferidos? ¿Y qué libro ha significado más para ti?"

 

I have tons of favorite authors, but the ones that come to mind right away are Stephen King, Kurt Vonnegut, Beverly Clearly, and Richelle Mead. 

"Hay un montón de autores que me gustan, pero los que me vienen a la cabeza ahora mismo son Stephen King,  Kurt Vonnegut, Beverley Clearly y Richelle Mead."

4. Do you find inspiration in music? If so, what type of music.

"¿Encuentras inspiración en la música? Y si es así ¿qué tipo de música?"

 

Definitely. I always make a "soundtrack" to each book I'm working on, and that's what I mostly listen to while I'm writing. I listen to a lot of different types of music, so I just kind of try to find songs that I think go along with the setting/scenes I'm working on. 

"Por supuesto que sí. Siempre elijo una banda sonora para cada uno de los libros con los que trabajo, y eso es lo que suelo escuchar mientras escribo. Me gustan muchos tipos de música, así que intento encontrar aquellas canciones que considero que van con los escenarios y escenas que escribo."

5. "Watersong" are one of your best sellers in Spain at the moment, but which one is your favourite title?

"Canción de mar es una de las series más vendidas en España en este momento, pero ¿cuál es tu título preferido?"
 

That's tough to say. I'm very proud of the Watersong books, and I think right now my favorite title would have to be the last book in that series, because I'm just finishing editing it now. But, to be fair, I always think the last book I finished working on is my favorite at that time. :)

"Es difícil de decir. Estoy muy orgullosa de los libros de Canción del mar, y supongo que mi título preferido es el último que estoy escribiendo de esta serie, que acabo de editarlo. Pero para ser sincera, siempre he creído que mi titulo preferido ha sido el último que he escrito :)."

6. We would like to know more about your literary projects in the future, will you keep writing fantasy or is there any other genre you would like to cover?

"Nos gustaría saber algo más sobre tus proyectos futuros, ¿seguirás escribiendo fantasía o hay algún otro género que te gustaría tratar?"

 

I would love to branch out and write in some different genres in the future, but for right now I'm having a lot of fun writing in this genre, and plan on sticking with that for the time being.

"Me encantaría expandirme y escribir otros géneros en el futuro, pero ahora mismo me lo paso genial escribiendo este género, y tengo intención de seguir con él durante un tiempo."

 

7. Any advice to new authors?

"¿Algún consejo a nuevos autores?"

 

I think the best advice I can give is to read a lot, write a lot, and research a lot. Things are changing pretty quickly right now, and there's a lot of different ways to do things, so it's important to understand how everything works, and find what you think would work best for you. 

"Creo que el mejor consejo que puedo dar es leer e investigar mucho. Las cosas están cambiando bastante en estos momentos, y hay muchos modos de hacer las cosas, así que  lo importante es saber cómo funciona todo y encontrar el camino que creas que te irá mejor."
